It’s worth considering airlines / connections – if your using different airlines with multiple stops they may charge your extra luggage for each phase of the journey.

Coming back into New Zealand give your board-bag, wings & velcro on the leash a really thorough check for seeds caught up in seams or insects tucked away in crevices.

Very true, great comment. Connecting flights with different airlines that do not code share, or over night stops, could be a costly maneuver.

Similar experience going to Rarotonga last year. I went to the point of putting as many foils into single protectors as possible, leaving wing bags behind (2-3 wings can fit in one bag if needed. When packing, wings make great protection layers between masts and boards etc), screws and hardware can go in other peoples check in luggage etc. I managed to get away for 12 days just with board bag and 1 carry on. Weighing before leaving for the airport is vital.
